McFadyen Pipeline Construction was engaged to deliver stormwater drainage and associated concrete structures as part of the Pacific Highway Upgrade between Burleigh and Palm Beach on the Gold Coast.
The scope included the installation of approximately 6,000 metres of pipework, 220 pits, and around 1,100m³ of concrete for culvert bases and end structures. Due to supply and demand constraints at the time, precast pits were not available, requiring all pit structures to be formed and poured insitu.
Works were delivered in a high profile urban corridor, with all activities carried out in public view and under ongoing traffic management constraints. This required careful staging and consistent site control to maintain safety and minimise disruption.
The project was also undertaken within an environmentally sensitive area, requiring the use of tidal barriers and strict environmental controls due to PFAS contamination risks. Coordinating works around live conditions, environmental constraints and limited working space added further complexity.
Despite these challenges, McFadyen successfully delivered the package through practical problem solving, disciplined planning and experienced crews. The team maintained steady progress across all drainage and concrete works, delivering the project safely, on time and to specification.
